Even though he never taught at HHS, he nevertheless taught a good number of us in grade school and junior high school. He was my very first music teacher and I will never forget him. He was a wonderful man, a true Christian man, and a very patient and inspiring teacher who will be dearly missed by all
who knew him.

Dean E. George, 85, of Hutchinson, died Jan. 15, 2013, at his home.
Dean was born Sept. 30, 1927, at Wakita, Okla., the son of Alton L. and Hilda S. Nelson George.
He graduated from Manchester High School in 1945 and from Northwestern Oklahoma State University in Alva, Okla. He later earned his master's degree from Northwestern State. Dean was a retired band teacher, having taught at Medicine Lodge and later in Hutchinson. Dean taught at Liberty Junior High School and Sherman Junior High School for a total of more than 30 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Dean married Norma Deane Vanderslice on Dec. 25, 1948, in Waynoka, Okla. Norma Deane died Nov. 24, 2011.
Survivors include: two sons, Alan George and wife Shannon, and Terry George and wife Susie, all of Hutchinson; a brother, Leon George and wife Marlyce of Denver, Colo.; a sister, Carol George of Denver, Colo.; three grandchildren, Kelly Martinez, Kris Mayberry and Tanner George, all of Hutchinson; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Evart and Verle; and two sisters, Mary and Marie.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013, at Elliott Mortuary, with the Rev. John Carney presiding and military honors provided by the U.S. Army Honor Guard from Fort Riley. Cremation will follow the service. Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, and the family will greet friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Friday, all at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.
