DAVID ALBERT NELSON
David Albert Nelson, 67, passed away at his home in South Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on Sunday, Dec. 15, 2019. David fought a brave three-year battle with cancer before slipping
away peacefully, surrounded by his children, brothers, and former wife.
David was born in Hutchinson, Kansas, on Jan. 2, 1952, the son of Bert and Naomi (Doane) Nelson. He graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1970. Subsequently, David
attended General Motors Institute (Kettering University) in Flint, Michigan, where he received his bachelor of science degree in manufacturing development engineering in 1976.
While attending GMI, he participated in the co-op program with the university and Delco Electronics. In 1972, he was transferred to Delco world headquarters in Kokomo, Indiana.
On July 1, 1978, David and Maddalena Castaldo were married at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Kokomo. They are the parents of three children. The couple divorced after 21 years
of marriage, but remained dedicated friends and co-parents.
David is survived by his children, Berton D. Nelson, South Milwaukee, Patrick J. (Tamiko) Nelson, Brooklyn, New York, Kaleb M. Nelson, Chicago, and granddaughter, Maya D.
Nelson, Brooklyn. Surviving siblings are Vernon R. (Kay) Nelson, Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, and Ken (Debbie) Nelson, Mount Vernon, Illinois. David is also survived by 10 nieces
and nephews, and 11 great-nieces and great-nephews. Former wife, Maddalena Hedrick, also survives. Preceding David in death were his parents, his eldest brother, William F.
Nelson, Ph.D, and an infant niece, Sherri Lynn Nelson.
No services are scheduled, but donations in David's memory may be made to the Cancer Research Institute (cancerresearch.org). David will be interred alongside his brother and
parents in Hutchinson, Kansas. A memorial service will be planned at a later date.
David will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
